After seven years, the return of the historic train along the Sulmona–Isernia line marks a particularly meaningful moment for Molise, which once again becomes the true protagonist of one of Italy’s most scenic railway experiences.
At the center of this event is Isernia, the city where it all began in 2012 thanks to the association LeRotaie-Molise, now responsible for preserving the MOFIS Railway Museum, located right next to the station. A symbolic place that reflects the region’s deep railway heritage.
On Saturday, April 25, the train will arrive in Molise from Abruzzo, bringing travelers into the heart of the region. Visitors will have the chance to explore Isernia’s historic center—ancient Aesernia—and experience the authentic atmosphere of the city.
But Sunday, April 26, is truly Molise’s day.
After years of anticipation, local residents will finally board the historic train departing directly from Isernia. A long-awaited experience that holds special emotional value for the community.
The journey will head toward Sulmona, with a scenic stop in Campo di Giove, before returning to Isernia via dedicated transport.
More than just an event, this is an opportunity to highlight Molise’s identity, landscapes, and cultural richness through the lens of slow and meaningful travel.
A return that belongs, above all, to Molise.
